A detailed explanation of the Frenzel technique for equalizing ear pressure and why deep divers prefer it.
Frenzel Technique is the major upgrade in pressure leveling skills and unlocking it opens the depths to you.
The valsava relies on the lungs for pressure. Frenzel relies on the muscles of the throat and lingual diaphragm and is more efficient and suitable in depth.
At greater depths the lungs become compressed and difficult to use for compression. Frenzel works with muscles independent of the lungs and remains effective at the deepest depths.
First: Find the muscle
Close your nose and try to pronounce the letter K forcefully. You will feel a movement in the back throat. This is the required muscle.
Second: Dry training
Practice moving this muscle out of the water in front of a mirror for weeks until you master it.
Third: Application in water
Start at a small depth and apply Frenzel. You will immediately feel the difference in the efficiency of straightening your ears.
Learning Frenzel requires weeks of patience, but the fruits last for years of diving to greater depths.
