FAQ

Everything on your mind before diving — answered plainly here

General — before you start

Do I need previous diving experience?

No. The try dive is for people with no experience. A certified instructor stays with you from the start.

What is the minimum age?

Discover Scuba Diving in the sea: usually age 10+ (PADI). Pool kids’ programmes from age 8 when scheduled. Open Water Diver: from 10 as Junior Open Water (depth limits); age 15 for the adult Open Water certificate. Freediving: 15 for the full PADI Freediver course; 12 for Basic Freediver (confined water, max 6 m). Parental consent is required under 18 where applicable.

Do I need to be athletic?

No. Diving suits all fitness levels. The only condition: no acute heart or lung disease. If you have a medical condition, ask your doctor first.

Do I need to be able to swim?

For the try dive: no — it is designed with the instructor. For Open Water: yes, a simple swim (200 m or 300 m with surface gear per PADI). For freediving: Yes. The PADI Freediver form requires a water-skill proof: about 200 m/yd swim, or 300 m/yd with mask, fins and snorkel without stopping (no time limit), any stroke.

What is the difference between scuba and freediving?

Scuba uses a regulator and a breathing-gas cylinder (usually compressed air), so you can stay longer underwater. Freediving has no regulator or tank: you prepare breathing on the surface, then descend on a breath-hold — a different skill and safety path.

Weather and sea

Does the site have wind and wave information before diving?

Yes. The marine-weather planning page shows a guidance score for wind and waves at several coastal sites from forecast data (Open-Meteo). It is updated on the server periodically. Use it as planning help only — it does not replace the instructor briefing or the captain’s safety decision.

Can I rely on the marine-weather score to decide whether to dive?

Not as the only decision. The score is a digital guidance tool and can differ from local conditions. Final safety stays with your certified instructor, the vessel, and applicable rules. If in doubt, cancel the dive or talk with the centre team.

Safety

Is diving dangerous?

English translation is pending. Please contact the centre for details.

What if I panic underwater?

The instructor watches you continuously. Stop, stay calm: on scuba, breathe slowly from the regulator without holding your exhale; on freediving, ascend calmly to recover on the surface. Do not continue training until you can relax in shallow water first.

What if I have ear problems?

Ear pain on descent is common and is handled with a simple equalisation drill. The instructor teaches you before you go down.

Do I need a medical check before diving?

No medical exam is required for a try dive. Full courses use a simple health form. Anyone with a chronic condition should check with their doctor.

How do you handle emergencies?

All our instructors hold first-aid and CPR certificates. We carry a first-aid kit and emergency oxygen at every session.

Gear

Do I need to buy gear?

All gear is provided and included in the course price except the wetsuit. You do not need to buy anything. A comfortable swimsuit is enough.

Is the gear clean and disinfected?

Yes. All gear is disinfected after each use per our cleaning protocol. We replace equipment regularly to keep quality high.

What do I wear under the wetsuit?

A comfortable swimsuit (for women, a swimsuit or shorts and a T-shirt). No special clothing is required.

Should I bring my glasses?

Dive masks do not fit glasses. If you have poor vision, ask us about masks for contact lenses or a prescription mask.

Do I need an underwater camera?

Not required, but fun. You can rent an underwater camera from us at a modest fee, or bring your own GoPro.

Courses and certificates

What is the difference between a try dive and Open Water?

Scuba try dive: a session with an instructor and a participation certificate. Freediving try dive: no participation certificate. Open Water and other programmes end with a recognised licence within course limits.

Is the certificate recognised internationally?

Yes. Our certificates are recognised internationally at dive centres in more than 180 countries.

How long does Open Water certification take?

4 to 5 days: theory, pool training, then 4 open-water dives.

Can I split the course across separate days?

Yes. Sessions can be split around your schedule. Minimum: two consecutive days for the open-water practical.

What happens after completing the freediving course?

You receive the Level 1 certificate and can join Level 2, or dive independently with a certified buddy.
