Basic precautions in freediving

Site adminWednesday, 12 June 202490 views

A comprehensive list of precautions that every freediver should observe before, during and after diving.

Precautions are not restrictions, but rather what allow you to continue diving for many years safely.

Before diving

  • Check weather conditions, wave heights and currents
  • Do not dive after a heavy meal, wait at least two hours
  • Make sure your dive partner is ready and alert
  • Check your equipment before entering the water

While diving

Signs for communicating with your partner
Agree with your partner in advance on clear signals for safety, to call for help, and to end the dive.

Respect your limits
Climb to the surface when you feel the first urge to breathe and never challenge it.

After diving

  • Do not dive again if you feel tired or dizzy
  • Tell someone on shore all your diver's plans
  • Rest between dives for at least as long as the duration of the dive

A safe diver is one who comes home every time to dive again.
