Balance and poise in the world of freediving

Site adminMonday, 10 June 2024103 views

How to achieve perfect balance in the water and maintain correct posture that increases your efficiency and reduces energy consumption.

Good balance in the water distinguishes a skilled diver and makes every dive more comfortable, efficient and safe.

Types of buoyancy in diving

Positive buoyancy
The body floats upward spontaneously, which is the natural surface position for most people.

Neutral buoyancy
The body stays in place without rising or falling and is the ideal goal for efficient freediving.

Negative buoyancy
The body descends spontaneously, which is what happens in free fall at depth.

Achieving ideal balance

  • Use a lead belt that is appropriate for your weight and the density of your suit
  • Distribute lead evenly around the body
  • Adjust bullet weight based on diving depth and salt or fresh water

Techniques to improve balance

  • Neutral buoyancy exercises in the pool
  • Practice staying still at a fixed depth without moving
  • Reading your body movement and constantly adjusting your position

Good balance means less effort, more oxygen, and a better diving experience.
