Stages of development of a freediver from beginner to professional

Site adminSaturday, 8 June 202489 views

A clear map of the development journey in freediving and what you need at each stage to move to the next level.

The freediver's journey goes through clear stages, and each stage builds on the previous one to eventually reach advanced levels.

First stage: Beginner (1 - 10 metres)

In this stage you learn to prepare for surface breathing, freediving equipment, decompression and basic safety. The goal is to reach a depth of 10 meters with confidence and comfort.

The second stage: medium (10 - 20 metres)

Skills for this stage
Deepening the techniques of holding and respiratory conditioning, developing the skill of regulating pressure at depth, and starting to use more specialized equipment.

The third stage: advanced (20 - 40 meters)

  • Access to the full free fall zone
  • Develop deep balance and relaxation to safely extend confinement
  • Rescue training and diving partner qualification

Fourth stage: Professional (more than 40 metres)

At this stage, the diver becomes able to train others, possesses a deep awareness of his body and its limits, and the ability to manage emergencies.

What distinguishes each stage

  • Self-confidence and calm under pressure
  • Reading the sea and adapting to its conditions
  • Ability to help others and shared safety

Do not rush to move from one stage to another, as the quality at each stage is more important than the speed of the transition.
