Solo free diving: rules and risks

Site adminTuesday, 20 August 2024107 views

Is it possible to freedive alone? What circumstances might justify it and what are the real risks you face.

Solo freediving is a sensitive topic and no professional recommends it, but understanding the risks is essential for every diver.

Why freediving alone is dangerous

Surface fainting can happen at any time, even to the best divers. Who will save you if you faint while you are alone in the water?

Situations in which some people practice it

Some very advanced divers practice meditation in very shallow waters with supervision from shore. But this has strict limitations.

Rules if you have to train alone

  • In the water, only your knees
  • An observer sees every movement from the shore and knows what to do
  • Never hold your breath alone, no matter the level

The correct alternative

Find a freediving club or organized group that shares your training. A partner is not a restriction but a guarantee.

No dive is worth risking your life. A partner is not an option but a necessity in freediving.
