Record Depths in Freediving: A Journey to the Frontier

Site adminSaturday, 24 August 202487 views

Stories and records in free diving and the amazing physiology behind reaching depths exceeding 300 metres.

Freediving records push the limits of what was thought possible for the human body.

Standard depth classifications

No Limits
The classification that allows the use of a weight for landing and a balloon for ascent, and it achieves the deepest numbers, some of which exceeded 300 metres.

Free Emergence
He descends with all he wants and ascends only with multiples of it. It is more difficult than No Limits because the body ascends through its own effort from great depths.

Constant Witt
Using only fins while descending and ascending is the most respected standard in freediving circles.

What happens at record depths

At a depth of 200 meters, the lungs compress to less than a liter, a quarter of their normal volume. The pressure is 21 times atmospheric pressure. The trained human body handles this in an amazing way.

The true limit is where?

Scientists do not yet know the true limit of the human body in free diving. Every new record redraws the map.

Free diving records remind us that the limits of the human body are far beyond what we always imagine.
