Move from leading dives to teaching divers. The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the core path toward PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, conducted by a PADI Course Director. Programme length: 20 days. Two stages: • PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) • Open Water Scuba Instructor programme (OWSI) Most candidates complete both, then sit the separate PADI Instructor Examination (IE). You practise knowledge presentations, confined- and open-water skill teaching, lesson organisation, correcting student errors, PADI standards, supervision and risk management, communication and assessment, professional ethics, and IE preparation. Completing IDC does not automatically award PADI Instructor status. All requirements, a passing IE, and credentialing procedures must be completed.
