How to choose the right diving mask for your face

A diving mask is your window to the underwater world and choosing the right one makes a big difference in your experience.

Mask selection criteria

Tightness and conforms to the face
Put the mask on your face without fastening the tape and breathe gently through the nose. If it stays attached, it fits your face shape.

Air chamber size
A mask with a small air chamber is better for freediving because it facilitates pressure equalization. A larger mask gives a wider view but requires more air to settle.

Types of lenses

One lens
gives a wider panoramic vision and is best suited for side vision.

The two separate lenses
They allow the installation of prescription lenses for those who use glasses, making them an ideal option for the visually impaired.

Test the mask before purchasing

• Wear it and look down and to the sides to check the range of vision
• Check that the strap operates easily and can be adjusted with one hand
• Make sure the silicone material is soft and comfortable around the nose

Mask Maintenance

• Wash it with fresh water after each use in salt water
• Do not leave it in direct sun, as ultraviolet rays damage the silicone
• Store it in a cool, dry place away from pressure
