Wetsuit: How to choose the right thickness and type

Site adminTuesday, 25 June 2024101 views

Comparison of wetsuit types and how to choose the right thickness for the water temperature in your area.

A diving suit protects your body from cold, scratches, and some harmful organisms, and it is a necessity, not a luxury.

Types of diving suits

Neoprene wet suit
It allows a small amount of water to enter and is then warmed between the body and the suit and is the most common.

Dry diving suit
It completely prevents water from entering and is used in very cold waters. It requires additional training to master its use.

Choose the thickness of the suit

  • Temperature above 28°C: 3mm suit or waterproof elastic suit
  • 24 to 28°C: Suit 3mm to 5mm
  • 18 to 24°C: Suit 5mm to 7mm
  • Below 18°C: 7 mm suit or dry suit

How to choose the correct size

The suit should fit tightly to your body without restricting movement. Voids in the suit make it less efficient at keeping warm.

Suit Maintenance

  • Wash it with fresh water after each use
  • Dry it in the shade and not in direct sun
  • Store hanging, not folded, to avoid cracking

A good wetsuit is an investment that will last you years if you take care of it.
