Technical Diving: A Beyond Recreational Overview

Site adminSunday, 4 August 202490 views

An introduction to the world of technical diving, what distinguishes it from recreational diving, and the requirements necessary to enter it.

Technical diving is the step that comes after mastering recreational diving for those who want to discover greater depths and more difficult challenges.

What is technical diving

Technical diving goes beyond the 40-meter limit of recreational diving and enables the diver to reach depths of 100 meters or more using special gas mixtures and advanced techniques.

Basic differences

Gases used
Instead of regular air, technical diving uses mixtures such as Nitrox, Trimix and Heliox to avoid nitrogen narcosis and oxygen poisoning.

Equipment
Multiple cylinders, rebreathers and additional equipment for every emergency.

Depths in technical diving

  • Deco diving: 40 to 60 meters with long clearance stops
  • Medium depths: 60 to 100 meters
  • Maximum depths: above 100 meters for a very specialized few

What you need to get started

  • At least 200 recreational dives
  • Lifeguard and Advanced First Aid Certificate
  • Real motivation and not just curiosity because the training is long and intense

Technical diving is not for everyone, but it is a wonderful path for those who hear the call of the depths.
