How do you behave when facing a strong sea current and survive it safely without random resistance?
The strong sea current surprises many divers, but with the right knowledge, it can be dealt with safely.
The strong current is beyond the ability of any diver to swim against it. Resisting it directly will exhaust you in minutes and make you run out of air at double speed.
Swimming at a diagonal angle
Swim in a direction that crosses the current at a 45-degree angle rather than head-on. You will progress slowly but you will not get tired.
Descent to the bottom
Sometimes the strongest current is at the surface and at the bottom it is greatly reduced. If it is safe, go to the bottom and swim along it.
Using rocks and reefs
Rockes and bottom relief soften the current behind them. Move from rock to rock if possible and safe.
Always ask about currents before diving and consult local guides who know the current patterns in each season.
The sea is stronger than you all the time. Dealing with it intelligently, not forcefully, is what saves the diver.
